Pro-Chancellor Installation Ceremony

Paul Miller

08.12.25

The world's first specialist higher education for Equity Diversity and Inclusion marks its achievement of University Centre status with the formal installation of its Pro Chancellor, Mr. Lindel Moralley Flowers, at a special ceremony on December 11th in Huddersfield.

The Institute for Equity, University Centre based in Huddersfield, will welcome learners to celebrate the award of their qualifications in a ceremony to celebrate their success and the installation of the University Centre’s first Pro Chancellor. This event is a celebration of the Institute’s national and international leadership in advancing EDI education, policy, and practice. The Institute for Equity is the only organisation in the world to deliver the EDI Fellowship © – the qualification for EDI professionals, and the only UK institution offering both the Level 7 Certificate and Level 7 Diploma in EDI, alongside its MBA in Leadership for Equity.

Founded on a vision of fairness, opportunity and belonging, the Institute works across multiple sectors, including finance, education, nuclear, policing, and local government — with clients such as the Metropolitan Police Service, the Church of England, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, the Royal Academy of Engineering, the British Council, and many others.

“Our journey reflects the power of purpose-led education,” said Professor Paul Miller, CEO & Principal of the Institute for Equity, University Centre. “We are pleased to celebrate our new University Centre status and to welcome Mr. Lindel Moralley Flowers as our Pro Chancellor — a leader whose life embodies the principles of equity, inclusion and community empowerment.”

Introducing the Pro Chancellor: Mr. Lindel Moralley Flowers

Mr. Flowers’ appointment reflects the Institute’s deep commitment to honouring lived experience, regional leadership, and civic impact.

A Proven Commitment to Equity and Inclusion:

Over nearly five decades Mr Flowers has created employment, mentoring, and training opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, while championing social mobility, youth development, health awareness, and rehabilitation initiatives. As a co-founder of the Caribbean Association in the 1970s, Mr. Flowers helped raise vital funds to support children facing discrimination and social exclusion.

An Inspirational Public Figure:

Mr. Flowers’ lifetime of service has been recognised through numerous awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award (2015) for contributions to the Black community in Huddersfield. In 2023, he and his wife Alda were received at Buckingham Palace by King Charles III, in recognition of their work and their role within the Windrush Generation.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Flowers said:

To be entrusted with this position – at an institution so versatile and ambitious, and so vital in its outlook and purpose – is both humbling and profoundly meaningful. I accept it not only with pride, but with a deep awareness of the responsibilities it carries.

A Historic Celebration

The installation ceremony will take place at Cedar Court Hotel, Huddersfield on 11th December 2025, attended by distinguished guests from education, government, and community sectors. The event will celebrate not only the Institute’s elevation to University Centre status, but also the values of equity, representation, and social responsibility that define its mission.
