About the module

Participants will examine the need for Antiracist Pedagogy within a school/ college/ university/ professional learning curriculum as well as the necessary professional development required to implement Antiracist Pedagogy effectively. It will challenge and encourage participants to be aware of their social position, but more importantly, to begin and continue critical self-reflection to effectively implement anti-racist curriculum development and teaching.

EDI Data Analytics
About the module
This module provides an introduction to data in the context of equity, diversity & inclusion (EDI). EDI data can be the source of much contention and/or confusion, usually borne of a need for transparency or fear or the need to protect an organisation’s reputation. By making data central to EDI work, organisations can be more confidently make decisions concerning interventions, individuals and/or groups. This module combines theory with practice through five interrelated elements: Why data matters in EDI work? Attitudes to EDI data. Ethics, Consent and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), Risk Mitigation & Management, and Data Modelling. Together, these elements should position anyone leading or using EDI data in their work to be confident to ask challenging questions concerning data, whilst also being comfortable with any discomfort arising from the analyses and/or comparisons of different datasets.

EDI Policy Analysis
About the module
This module examines four key areas: (i) what is a policy? (ii) the messiness of the policy making process (iii) policy development models, and (iv) Taylor et al’s analytical approach to policy analysis where policy is regarded as: (a) text, (b) context, and (c) consequences. As text, what is included in a policy is as important as what is left out. Furthermore, what is included is the result of a series of ‘negotiations’ and ‘power relations’. As context, the policy aims to shape an internal organisation, whilst it also attempts to respond to internal organisational needs and/or ambitions. As consequences, the possible effects of a course of action or direction within a policy are examined. This introductory module is intended to provide policy writers, HR and EDI teams a specific framework and sufficient understanding of how to conduct policy reviews through an Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) lens.
