Dr Maureen Dwyer has been the head of the National Education Inspectorate (NEI) since September 2011. She has a strong commitment to equity, leadership and school improvement.
She has more than 31 years’ experience of working at the tertiary and secondary levels of the Jamaican education system, starting as a schoolteacher. Dr Dwyer’s work at the NEI has been instrumental in helping successive governments, along with the work of the National College for Educational Leadership (NCEL), focus on leadership for system level school improvement. Dr Dwyer’s work has implications and relevance beyond Jamaica and the Caribbean. Between 2022 -2023, Dr Dwyer was seconded from her substantive Chief Inspector role in the Ministry of Education to that of Permanent Secretary.
