This prestigious designation follows months of high-level engagement and reflects IESE’s track record in delivering high-quality, degree-level education and conducting research that drives positive societal change both in the UK and internationally.
“This is a watershed moment,” said Professor Paul Miller, Director of IESE. “At a time when EDI is under intense scrutiny and political pressure, this recognition affirms our commitment to social justice through education. It also creates new opportunities for partnerships, funding, and greater impact.”
What “University Centre” Status Means
According to 2021 Department for Education guidelines, “University Centre” status is granted to registered higher education providers that offer degree-level qualifications, often in partnership with recognised universities. The title is reserved for institutions that meet strict quality and compliance standards, particularly when operating outside traditional university campuses.
IESE meets these conditions and is also listed on the UK Register of Learning Providers (UKRLP).
Parliamentary Recognition
Huddersfield MP Harpreet Uppal praised the development:
“I’m delighted to see IESE, based here in Huddersfield, achieve this recognition. Their work is vital—locally and nationally—especially in the face of growing resistance to inclusive practices. This is a proud moment for our community and a bold step toward a more equitable society.”
Driving the EDI Agenda
IESE is the UK’s only independent tertiary-level organisation focused exclusively on equity, diversity, and inclusion. The Institute offers several pioneering qualifications, including:
- EDI Fellowship© – the flagship credential for EDI professionals
- Level 7 Certificate & Diploma in EDI
- MBA in Leadership, Equity, Inclusion & Organisational Development
- Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Leadership, Change & Innovation
Looking Ahead
With University Centre status, IESE is poised for expansion—broadening its reach, increasing its influence, and continuing to shape the conversation around social equity through education, research, and partnerships.
“This recognition is not just a title—it’s a platform,” added Professor Miller. “A platform for growth, collaboration, and meaningful change.”
